Home   About Us

Fifteen years ago, the small coastal town of Milbridge experienced a rapid influx of Latino immigrant workers who decided to leave the “migrant stream” and settle here in Downeast Maine. An estimated 600 Latino residents now live, work, and participate in communities in Eastern Hancock and Washington Counties. Mano en Mano is dedicated to creating a strong and diverse community by building bridges of understanding and joy through our programming.

Mano en Mano’s mission is to: build a stronger community in Downeast Maine by working with diverse populations to provide educational and affordable housing opportunities, remove barriers to health and social services, and advocate for social justice.

Mano en Mano has always taken an active approach to meeting our mission and goals by consistently creating or changing programs to respond to the evolving needs of the community we serve. Our programs can be generally classified into the following areas:

Access to Essential Services
Migrant Education
Community Bridges
Affordable Housing
Scholarships

In order to efficiently and effectively operate these programs, we actively collaborate with local and statewide organizations to share resources and expertise, find better solutions and cost savings, and enjoy mutual success.
