Migrant Youth Programs Summer 2010 Newsletter
Summer of 2010 was the first season that Mano en Mano teachers went out to blueberry camps to provide Title 1C mandated educational programming to youth ages 14-21. Attachment (bilingual/disponible en Español): Summer 2010 Migrant Youth Programs Newsletter.
Here are some highlights of the summer:
- Students created the Wild Blue Harvest Recipe Book by recording and collecting favorite and traditional recipes from different camps. Stay tuned for the published version!
- Teachers introduced the use of MP3s as a way to provide an additional audio element for English as a Second Language students to continue their learning independently after the season.
- A group of youth took a ferry boat from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor with Captain (and Executive Director) Ian Yaffe and learned how to navigate at sea. Thanks to Capt. Steve Pagels of Downeast Windjammer Cruises for making it possible!
- Youth at the Henry Googoo camp organized a community event that included karaoke, face painting, a nail salon, basketball and football.
Ana Blagojevic served as the coordinator for this year’s summer program and will be joining our year-round staff this fall as Director of Educational Programs so look forward to hearing more soon!
