A Celebration of La Posada

We celebrated our 5th Annual Holiday Posada on December 13th at the EdGE Center in Cherryfield. A posada is a Mexican cultural tradition that takes place in December in the days leading up to Christmas. In context it means “hospitality” or a space to stay—welcoming friends in for a meal and festivities. While our interpretation in Maine is much different than the multi-evening festival in Mexico, the sentiment and importance of the cultural tradition remains the same.

This year we opened with a presentation of the song “Para Pedir Posada” and an explanation of the meaning of the event. Staff also organized an Open Mic as a way to involve more community participants, and we had a mix of musical, vocal, and skit acts! In addition, a community member volunteered as a face painter. The children’s game “Musical Chairs” remained the most popular, and at the end all the children got in line to tackle three piñatas!

We are grateful for the support of our community partners and for many willing volunteers that participated in La Posada.
